Kay Jewett, the daughter of Floyd and Wayve (Denney) Kirby, was born March 22, 1939, in Villisca, IA. She was married to Hugh N. Jewett on May 29, 1963 in Oceanside, CA. They had one daughter, Cindy Linn.
Kay graduated from Aurelia High School in 1957. She worked for the First Trust and Savings Bank in Aurelia until December 1959. She moved to Omaha, NE, and began working as an executive secretary for RCA Corporation on the Atlas Missile Project at Offutt Air Force Base. In 1961, she was transferred to Beal Air Force Base in Marysville, CA as a secretary on Titan Missile Project. She was so proud to have worked on these exciting projects and to be a small part of our countries missile programs. Not wanting to transfer to Lake Placid, N.Y., she moved to Carlsbad, CA and worked for the Bank of America in Oceanside, CA until June 1963. She always felt this move was fated because it was here she met Marine Corporal Hugh N. Jewett, her future husband.
Upon Hugh's discharge from the Marine Corps, they moved to Zanesville, Ohio, and remained there until December 1969, when they moved to Spencer. After her marriage, Kay had several part-time jobs, but mostly she enjoyed being a homemaker and a stay-at-home mother. She enjoyed many hobbies: sewing, crafts, photography, English literature, collecting Ohio pottery, and volunteer work. In 1990, she was awarded the Iowa Governor's Volunteer Award. Kay was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lydia circle, and the fellowship of widows.
Kay passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh and her parents.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Cindy, and her husband, Jeff Mincer and granddaughter, Cora of Milford; one brother, Gary Kirby of McKinney, TX; four sisters: Pat and her husband, Paul Rausch of Spencer, Norma and her husband, Louis Reinking of Platte City, MO, Ann Pender of Peterson, IA and Linda and her husband, Jim Hanson of Harrison, TN; two sisters-in-law, Eva Creeks of Zanesville and Doris and her husband, Gary Flynn of Nashport, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
