Marilyn Ruth Cameron, the daughter of John and Ruth (Smith) Cameron, was born November 27, 1934 in Rolfe, Iowa. A few years later the family moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, where Marilyn attended grade school. She attended high school there until her Jr. Year. The family moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1950. Marilyn graduated in 1952 from the Spirit Lake High School.
As a side note, Marilyn's father was a barber and happened to give a little boy by the name of Wayne B. Halling his first real haircut. Little did he know he was giving the haircut to his future son-in-law, Wayne. This took place in Storm Lake, Iowa, sometime in 1933 or early 1934. Wayne's last senior day of high school at Storm Lake High School was in 1950. He noticed Marilyn with a group of classmates. As the group moved on Marilyn came Wayne's direction for Wayne it was love at first sight. They wrote in each other's school annual. Not much was said. They moved on. Wayne went his way and Marilyn went her way. Shortly after, Marilyn, with her family moved to Spirit Lake, IA. It was not until after Marilyn graduated from Spirit Lake High School that she moved back to Storm Lake, IA in 1952. She worked at a few small jobs before she found a good one at the Northwest Bell Telephone Company. Marilyn and Wayne found each other at a youth event in Storm Lake. Time and events passed in each life. Finally they married in a new little chapel at the Methodist Church in Storm Lake, June 29, 1955. They moved to Sac City, IA in 1958. Wayne had a teaching job in their high school and Marilyn attended Buena Vista College, taking Liberal Arts courses. Drawing and painting courses were her favorites.
August 7, 1962, Julie Rosanne Halling was born. She is her parents pride and joy. Marilyn decided to be a stay-at-home wife and mother. In 1964, the family moved to Spencer, IA, where Wayne was to teach. Marilyn used some free time and attended Ms. France's School of Cosmetology. She graduated and was certified as a cosmetologist. She loved her family, family activities and togetherness. She loved the many summers they were able to spend on the lake property they purchased in the late 1960's. Marilyn was born into a large family, one sister and three brothers. Her many loves were music, playing the coronet in the high school band, roller skating, swimming, fishing and the many years singing in the Methodist Choir.
Marilyn passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Ruth Cameron; one sister, Lois Probst and three brothers: Johnny, Alva and Gordon Cameron.
