Marjorie Verna Ashcraft

June 5, 1927 — November 30, 2012

Marjorie Verna Ashcraft, the daughter of George and Elenora (Grage) Macumber, was born June 5, 1927 in Manilla, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Manilla, where she received her education, graduating from Manilla High School in 1945. Her first job after high school was as a clerk and 'soda jerk' in Carnahan's Drug Store in Manilla. Later, she was employed as a cashier in the Shelby County State Bank of Manilla. On August 14, 1949, Marjorie married Henry 'Roy' Leroy Ashcraft in Hamburg, Iowa by Rev. C.C. Latta. Three children were born to this union: Alan, Amy and Brian. The family moved to Calumet in 1954 and later to Sutherland, IA, until moving to Peterson in 1959, where they made their home. Marge worked for The Peterson Patriot for 22 years as the editor. She liked to ride her bicycle to work. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary of her circle. Marge was also very active in veteran's organizations. She enjoyed flowers, birds and trains and continued to nurture this interest through her many books about them. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR races on TV. She moved to Manilla Manor in 2008 to be closer to her family. Marge passed away at the Manilla Manor on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy on December 11, 2002 and a brother, Frank. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Alan and his wife, Sandy of Hamlin, IA, Amy and her husband, Joseph Galloway of Des Moines, IA and Brian Ashcraft of La Grange, Georgia and Clarksville, Tennessee; a step grandson, Carson Galloway of Des Moines, IA; two brothers: James and Glen Macumber both of Manilla; two sisters: Vera Vollstedt of Manilla and Beulah Pickerel of St. Louis, MO; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Peterson, Iowa.

Visitation will begin after 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 4th with the family present from 5 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday Evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Peterson.

INTERMENT
Oakland Cemetery Peterson, Iowa A lunch and time of fellowship will be held at the church immediately following the graveside services.
