Mark Alan Cooper

Mark Alan Cooper, the son of Jack and Karen (Tesch) Cooper, was born February 3, 1962, in Cherokee, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Marcus and later Sutherland, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating from Sutherland High School in 1980. After graduation, he worked for Schoon Construction in Cherokee. In 1983, Mark enlisted in the military and served with the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in September 1987. He moved to Arizona for couple of years until returning to Cherokee where he worked for a few years. In 1990, he moved to Sutherland and married Kristi Krueger in January of 1991. To this union three children were born: Kacey, Jarod, and Chad. Following their marriage, they moved to Minnesota for five years and later moved to Spencer, Iowa in September of 1996, where he continued to live until the time of his death. Mark was a dedicated employee of Janitor's Closet in Spencer for the last 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outside, animals, nature and playing poker on Friday nights. Mark passed away at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the age of 53. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children: Kacey, Jarod and Chad Cooper of Spencer, IA; 2 grandchildren: Jaymz Slater and Adelynn Connor; two sisters: Debra and husband, Todd Hattermann of Paullina, IA, and Brenda Harmdierks of Cherokee, IA; one brother, Brian Cooper and wife, Danette of Monmouth, IL; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
