Mark Walter Anderson, the son of James and Hazel Conner Anderson, was born April 18, 1951 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. His childhood years were spent near Guthrie Center, where he received his early education in a one room country school and later through 8th grade at Guthrie Center school. His family then moved to Casey, Iowa, where he graduated from Adair-Casey High School. Mark was the 1st track runner for Adair-Casey High School to run the 2 mile run in track meets. He was also an active 4-H member, showing cattle and receiving several purple ribbons.
Mark married Sue Peterson on December 12, 1975 in Ames, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the Spencer area where they raised their two sons, Jarrod and Tony. Mark was an active member in the Spencer community, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Promise Keepers. He was also a member of AA since the mid 1980's, blood donor for the Red Cross, and a bone marrow donor. Mark enjoyed playing cards, messing on the computer, watching Clint Eastwood and Stephen Segal movies, riding his bike, running, watching NASCAR, listening to his loud music, pulling jokes, and goofing around. In his spare time he loved to bowl and do yard work before his shoulder injury. Mark loved being a father and helping and visiting his friends. He loved sweet corn on the cob and most of all, black walnut cake and homemade ice cream on his birthday.
Mark passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at the age of 58. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jim & Hazel Anderson; his sister, Camilla Booe and Mary Ann Anderson.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 35 years, Sue of Spencer; two sons: Jarrod and his fianc�, Anne Peters of Yankton, SD and Tony and his girlfriend, Erin Hagny of Harrisburg, SD; two brothers: Leo (Sue) Anderson and David (Barb) Anderson; four sisters: Melinda (Martin) Marten, Julia Anderson, Kathryn Anderson, and Teresa Anderson; his mother-in-law, Helen Peterson, sister-in-law, Julie (Jim) Spear; brother-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Peterson; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 21, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. A Catholic vigil service will be held 5:30 P.M., Thursday Evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
