Marla Jean Rindsig

November 14, 1929 — November 22, 2011

Marla Jean Rindsig was born November 14, 1929 in rural Schaller, Iowa to Marshall and Griselda (Schmidt) Robinson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. She attended country school in rural Schaller and, later, Schaller public school, graduating from Schaller High School in 1947. Marla Jean continued her education at Iowa State College in Ames where she pursued a degree in Home Economics. It was there she met William Bill Rindsig of Spencer, Iowa and they were married on August 21, 1949 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Marla Jean and Bill made their first home in Ames, Iowa while they both finished their educations. Marla Jean graduated from Iowa State in 1951 with a degree in Home Economics. Following graduation, Marla and Bill moved to Spencer, Iowa where Bill joined his father at Spencer Construction Company. Marla Jean accepted a position at Terril (Iowa) High School where she taught Home Economics, English, and Science. She later taught at Spencer High School until leaving to raise a family. Marla Jean and Bill were blessed with three children, Robin (of Ankeny, Iowa), Steven (and wife Jennifer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota), and Billee Jean (and husband Murray Grant of DeWitt, Iowa); four grandchildren, Matthew Rindsig, Stephanie Rindsig, Christopher Rindsig and Annalisa Grant; and one great-grandchild, William Rindsig Sanders. She devoted her life to her family and to her friends. Like her father before her, Marla Jean had a life-long love of horses and raised them for many years, including 15 years at her Rindsig Arabians facility west of Spencer. That love proved contagious, and it was passed on to her daughter and granddaughter. She was an expert seamstress, an avid collector of, among other things, brass trivets, depression-era glassware, and egg cups, and an avid reader. She also especially enjoyed cooking and could (and often did) make soup out of almost anything. Marla Jean was a sixty-year member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa and was a member of the D.A.R, P.E.O., MENSA and Questers organizations. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to First English Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
