Marlin Keith Foote, the son of Alden and Aurelia (Schley) Foote, was born October 28, 1927 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the communities of Dickens and Spencer, where he received his early education. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the Occupational Army in Germany as a truck driver with Headquarter's Troop 2nd Constabulary Brigade from October of 1945 until his honorable discharge in February of 1949. In the military, he received the WWII Occupation Medal and Victory Medal. Throughout the years, Marlin enjoyed reunions with his brigade group where he was a life member in the Union of Constabulary Brigade. Following his discharge, he returned to Spirit Lake, where he worked for the Iowa Fish and Game Department.
Marlin married Helen Hill on April 25, 1952 in Ayrshire, Iowa. They had recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, where he worked for WELCO Feed Co. and then N.W. Ice Cream Company until they closed. He then worked for Jersey Dairy and later for A & M Laundry, until his retirement in 1996. Marlin was a longtime volunteer at Goodwill after his retirement, taking care of the delivery truck. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Marlin was also an active member of Glen Pedersen Post #1 and a life member of Clay County VFW Post #3159 in Spencer.
Marlin passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Martin Jensen; two brothers: Charles Foote and Gary Jensen and one sister, Karen Brawner.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen of Spencer; two sons: Keith Foote of North Sioux City, SD: Gregory Foote and his wife, Cindy Evans of Spencer, IA; two grandchildren: David (Becky) Foote and Christina Foote; five great grandchildren; three sisters: Eloise Maiden of Napa, CA, Sharyl Orris of Arnolds Park, IA and Jerilyn (Steve) Streit of Milford, IA; a brother-in-law, Orval Brawner of Terril, IA; a sister-in-law, Rose Hill of Curlew, IA; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
Miltary services will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post #1 and Clay County VFW Post #3159 of Spencer.
