Marlyce Glendoryce Bauermeister was born on August 21, 1931 to Adolph and Dagmar Johnson. She was born in Wausa, Nebraska and graduated from Wausa High School. She taught in a one room schoolhouse in Wausa at 16. After one year, she decided to attend college at Wayne State College and then University of Nebraska to earn her teaching degree.
Marlyce married the love of her life, Ron Bauermeister, on July 16, 1960. Ron was living in California while attending college and came back to Wausa to be in a friend’s wedding. Marlyce was in the wedding for the bride, her cousin. The two hit it off and continued communicating by mail and a few phone calls. After a couple visits between Denver and Long Beach, California, Ron proposed and Marlyce accepted. The two lived in California for a short stint, then moved to Omaha where Kurt and Scot were born. Ron’s job moved them to Spencer a few years later.
Marlyce’s favorite job was getting to stay at home and raise her three boys: Kurt, Scot, and Mark. They kept her busy with their love of sports and wild outdoor adventures. She was an invested wrestling mom and could often be found behind her program or rubbing her hands, too nervous to watch. When the boys started school, she worked as a substitute teacher.
Marlyce was a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer, IA. She volunteered any chance she could get. Marlyce was often found baking brownies for church, wrapping care packages to send to those in need, and volunteering at St. Lukes.
Later in life, Marlyce discovered an even greater joy, being a grandma. She adored spending any time with them she could. They spent time baking, playing beauty salon, eating popcorn, and reading books. She could be persuaded to play any game with them if it involved being silly and laughing. She was their biggest cheerleader at various sporting and music events and was beyond proud of all of their accomplishments. She loved bragging about them to her friends and sharing pictures. That only intensified as she was blessed with four great-grandchildren.
Marlyce was the most selfless, caring, and generous person. She had the biggest heart for her family and friends. Almost every friend she had called her their “best friend.” She was always one to call and check in, send a card, or stop and visit.
Her family was her dearest treasure. They will forever cherish and remember the love she had for each of them. She is survived by her husband, Ron Bauermeister of Spencer, IA; sons: Kurt (Karen) Bauermeister, Spencer, IA; Scot (Tina) Bauermeister, Spirit Lake, IA; and Mark (Brenda) Bauermeister, Marion, IA. As well as her grandchildren: Ryan (Allie) Bauermeister, Kendra (Tanner) Macke, Sara (Drew) Schiltz, Jack Bauermeister, Aidan Bauermeister, Grant Bauermeister, Grace Bauermeister, and Garrett Bauermeister. Additionally, four great-grandchildren: Theodore and Sage Bauermeister, Gavin Schiltz, and Owen Macke.
She is preceded in death by her parents Dagmar and Adolph Johnson, her brothers Dale and Eldred Johnson, her sister Raynee Price, as well as many other loved ones. Marlyce passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2025.
