Marlys Hazel Vanderhoff, the daughter of Henry and Irene (Gilling) Junker, was born on September 11, 1945 in Mountain Lake, MN. She was raised and received her early education in St. James, MN. Following graduation, She moved to Spencer and started working at Rexall Drug Store.
On January 2, 1965, Marlys married Russell Vanderhoff in Mt Lake, MN. The couple lived on a farm near Ayrshire from 1965 until 1987, when they moved to Spencer. Marlys stayed home and raised her family and helped on the farm. Marlys attended the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed riding horses and going on trips with Russ to Pennsylvania, Wyoming and Texas and especially Colorado to visit family. She loved to spend time with her family, it was very important to her.
Marlys passed away on July 28, 2013, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 67. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Delores Frankamp.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Russell of Spencer; her daughter, Darcy Benson and her husband, Greg of Spencer; her three sons: Troy and Jeannine of Fountain, CO, Brett and Angie of Greenville, IA and Calvin and Jenna of Fair Play, CO; nine grandchildren; one brother, Mervin Junker of Afton, MN; her brother-in-law, Warner of Apple Valley, MN; two nieces Lisa Distad and her husband, Bill of Apple Valley, MN and Shelly Schwartz and her husband, Scott and their children of Garvin, MN; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Spencer.
