Marvin LeRoy Umbrell, the son of Archie William and Myrtle (Taylor) Umbrell, Sr., was born November 25, 1943 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Ayrshire, IA, where he received his education, graduating from Ayrshire High School in 1961. He worked in Ayrshire for a short time until he entered the U.S. Army during peace time from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1969.
Marv married Barbara McDonough in 1965 at the Methodist Church in Webb, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Gillett Grove, Ayrshire and in 1968 they moved to Spencer where he worked at Spencer Super Valu from 1989 until 1993. He later worked at Stylecraft from 1993 until his retirement. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, where he was a member of a men’s bible study group and volunteered his time doing landscaping around the church.
He passed away at the Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven, IA on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlotte Meyer a brother, Archie, Jr., a daughter, Margie Umbrell & a granddaughter, Harper.
Marvin is survived by his children: Shane (Heidi) Umbrell of Chandler, AZ, Renee (Paul) Freeman of Spencer, IA and Heidi (Chris) Taylor of Spencer, IA; 6 grandchildren: Destiny (Cole) Ginger, Challer (Catarina) Wadsley, Levi Gilmore, Shelby Freeman Reannen (Brody) Kacmarynski, Mady Freeman, Nicholas Umbrell, 7 great grandchildren: Beckett, Bowen, Braxtyn, Luca, Calvin, Zadkiel, Olivia. one brother, Arthur Umbrell of Laurens, IA & sister, Effie Heikens of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
