Marv Thuringer obit
On Thursday, October 21st, at the ripe young age of 89, Marvin Michael Thuringer passed away comfortably in his sleep with his wife and love of his life, Pat, by his side. We think she deserves a medal of honor by putting up with his shenanigans all these years. Marv is now reunited with his mom Annie, father Frank and brothers Loren and Jerry.
To know Marv was to love Marv…or at least tolerate Marv. His corny joke telling is legendary, like his favorite “What is racecar spelled backwards?”. He told this joke upwards of 10,000 times. Marv also prided himself on his relentless teasing of his kids and grandkids by giving them “snakebites” or amazing them with his “hidden finger trick”. Growing up in Parkston, South Dakota, “Marvelous Marv”, as he liked to call himself, was quite the athlete. To this day, he still holds the school record for most touchdowns scored in a game, which he reminded his family of constantly… & WE MEAN CONSTANTLY! Marv loved to paint and nothing brought him more joy than to give away his paintings to friends and family… and if you weren’t lucky enough to be the recipient of one of his paintings, I’m sure you were a victim of one of his bad jokes. In his later years, Marv’s favorite activity was to nap…and he did it well… and often! In fact, even though he is now young & healthy again, he is probably napping as we speak.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Patricia; sons Thomas (Beth) Thuringer of Sun Lakes, AZ and Mark (Susan) Thuringer of Cedar Falls, IA; daughter Cathy (Steve) Shea of Bellevue, NE; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Marv lived a long and wonderful life and was loved by all. He will be greatly missed.
