Mary Ann Mingus

Mary Mingus (Roland) died unexpectedly in Spencer, Iowa, on Friday September 11, 2015, at the age of 74. She is survived by Husband, Richard Mingus; daughter, Rebecca Thong (Mingus) of Spencer,IA. Vieng Thong of Spencer, IA. Sons: Jeffery Mingus of Newell, IA, Michael and Hoa Mingus of Spirit Lake, IA; Grandchildren; Christina and Cory Wiskow of Robbinsdale, MN, Brandon and Macy Thong of Blaine, MN, Cassie Mingus of Spencer, IA, Katie Mingus of Cherokee, IA. Nicholas and Mikayla Mingus of Spirit Lake, IA. Great-Grandchildren; Christopher, Jada, Keyana, Logan, and Alexis. Sisters; Vivian Fread (Kenneth) of Ruthven, IA, Betty Cuklanz of Terril, IA, Helen Enderson (Alan) of Spencer, IA. Mary is also survived by many other loved relatives and friends. Mary was born on September 8th, 1941, in Ruthven, Iowa, to Glendon and Violet Roland. She attended Ruthven High School. She married Richard Mingus from Spencer, IA on July 17th 1959. After moving to Spencer, Mary began working for Spencer Daily Reporter in the mailroom. Mary then began working at the Spencer High School as the Head Cook. Mary and Richard welcomed three children into their home. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle, patient, and driven Mother who encouraged them to always do their best. Mary was a shining example of hard work and dedication to her students at Spencer High School. She always loved being able to watch them grow and learn and always loved running into her past students in town. She was a traditionalist at home and always provided the perfect holiday meal year after year. Another passion of Mary's was flowers. She loved spending time in her garden and loved the surprise flower deliveries Richard would send her. Most afternoons during the summer you would see Mary sitting on her swing on the front porch and watching the birds. Both Mary and Richard loved camping and riding the motorcycle with family and friends. There will be lunch served following the service and burial at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary's life. The family would like to thank everyone who has stopped by or called to offer their support. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Glendon and Violet (Harris) Roland; infant sister, Virginia; sister, Darlene and husband, Wayne Nissen; brothers: Donald Roland, Charles Roland, Robert Roland, Dean and wife, Sharon Roland; brother-in-law, Duane Cuklanz.
