Mary Clifton, 85, of Knoxville Iowa, formerly of Spencer, Iowa passed away Tuesday Nov 29, 2011 at the Westridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville, Iowa. Mary Clifton, the daughter of Walter and Dora (Johnson) Wolfe, was born on February 5, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Philadelphia where she met her husband, Charles. Mary married Charles Clifton (her husband of 69 years) on September 13, 1942 in Maryland. Throughout her life, she and her husband lived and worked in Philadelphia and New Jersey where they had two children, Charles Jr. and Linda. They later moved to Spencer, Iowa where they had another daughter, Susan. They also owned and operated a restaurant, Charlie's, until retirement. She loved being with her family more than anything. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge and VFW in Spencer, Iowa. She was a bridge club member and enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crocheting and making things for her children and grandchildren. She was also a wonderful artist. Mary loved spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Walter. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles Clifton of Knoxville, Iowa; her son, Charles Clifton, Jr. (and wife Karen) of Mechanicsville, IA; two daughters, Linda Butler (and husband Jeff) of Ruthven, IA and Susan Clifton Pearson (and husband Paul) of Knoxville, IA. She also has seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren along with other relatives and many friends. She always said "Life is for the living, enjoy it."
SERVICES
There will be a Memorial Service held at the Moose Lodge in Spencer on January 7, 2012, at 1:00 P.M.
