Mary Louise Rehder, the daughter of Henry and Irene (Teichman) Layton, was born May 31, 1920 in Washington, MO. Her childhood years were spent in Sikeston, MO, where she received her education, graduating in 1938. Following her schooling, she worked as a bookkeeper for Woolworth for several years in Sikeston.
Mary met Leonard John Henry Rehder while he was in the Air Force and they were married on May 13, 1944 in Sikeston. Following their marriage, they moved to his farm near Paullina where they farmed until Leonard's death in 1984. Following his death, Mary moved to the town of Sutherland, and later Calumet, where she resided until the time of her death. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland where she was active in the church guild. Mary was also a member of the legion auxiliary. She loved to bake, sew, spending time at family gatherings and with her dogs and going to Walmart. She also loved the big band era and going to dances. Mary had just celebrated her 90th birthday and had a very enjoyable time. She could tell a good joke and was a great storyteller. Mrs. Rehder passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard on December 7, 1984; a daughter, Linda Johannsen; four grandchildren and four brothers: Hank, Paul, Alfred and Jack.
She is survived by three daughters: Maureen and her husband, Gary Kruse of Calumet, IA, Nanette and her husband, Brian Lindstrom of Fulton, MO and Ann and her husband, Rick Mews of Paullina, IA; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Layton and his wife, Sally Layton of Springfield, IL and one sister, Pauline Braun of Cape Girardeau, MO; her special dog, Libby; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland.
A Prayer Service will be held 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 22 at the Warner Funeral Home in Sutherland.
