Mary Louise Stanford

Mary Louise Stanford, the daughter of John and Mabel Stearns Fredenburg, was born June 26, 1918 in Sutherland, Iowa. Mary received her early education and graduated from the Cherokee High School. Mary married William Stanford in 1938 in Sioux City, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Sterling, CO, Albuquerque, NM and Rawlins, WY. Following the death of her husband, William in Rawlins, she moved back to Iowa in 1974. Mary worked at the Children's Home in Peterson, Cherokee State Hospital, Superior and Eaton's in Spencer. Mary attended the First Christian Church in Spencer and Maple Grove Church rural Peterson. Mary enjoyed dances at the Senior Center and crocheting. Mary passed away at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer on July 19, 2012 at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters: Inez and Fern and one brother, Hugh. She is survived by her children: Dennis (Pegi) Stanford of Washington, D.C., Donna Stanford of Spencer and Jolene (Robert) Gear who live abroad; 3 grandchildren: Brandy (Kevin) Wilds, Lindsay Gear and Alex Gear; 2 great grandchildren: Anthony and Ginger. Memorials may be made to Midwest Christian Children's Home in Peterson, IA or Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer.
