Mary Marietta Centner

February 25, 1923 — October 22, 2013

Mary Marietta Centner, the daughter of Teddy and Anna May Pettijohn Roorda, was born February 25, 1923, near Jeffers, MN. She was raised around Sheldon and Melvin and received her early education in country schools. On November 17, 1941, Mary married Vernon Roy Centner in Worthington, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in the Hartley, Melvin and May City areas where they farmed from 1951 until retiring in 1979. They then moved to Lake Park along the shore of Silver Lake. In 2001, they moved to the Highlands in Spencer. Mary was an active member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed flowers, traveling, taking fishing trips with her family, bowling and dance club. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary passed away on October 22, 2013 at Spencer Hospital at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Madeline Sprague; one sister-in-law, Esther Hansen; three brothers-in-law: Wilbur Wacker, Waldo Hansen and Bob Fahlenkamp. Left to cherish her memory is her two daughters: Adonna Hobbs of Twin Falls, ID, and Mavis (Charles) Leinen of Spencer, IA; two sons: Lynn (Colleen) Centner of Auburn, CA and Harland (Wendy) Centner of May City, IA; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Leona Holmes and Clarice Fahlenkamp both of Hartley; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 26, 2013 at First English Lutheran Church, Spencer, Iowa.
