Maurene Rae Ogburn

June 18, 1944 — July 13, 2016

Maurene Rae Ogburn, eldest daughter of Ray and Irene (DeBaker) Schneckloth, was born in Moline, Illinois, on June 18, 1944. Maurene's childhood years were spent in Moline where she attended Catholic schools. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1962. While attending Alleman, Sister Rosena was her home economics instructor who introduced her to sewing, which she pursued with a passion throughout her life. Later in life she perfected her skills and found great joy in sewing and making clothes, cross-stitching, and ultimately quilting. One of her greatest thrills was teaching others those skills. She won many awards during her many years in 4-H and later in life at the Clay County Fair. In 1962 she met her future husband, Gary Ogburn, and they were married on June 15, 1963, at Sacred Heart Church in Moline, Illinois. In 1964, Gary and Maurene moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, where they lived for six years while Gary managed the Super Valu store. In 1970, Maurene and Gary moved to Spencer and started the Gary Ogburn State Farm agency. While with State Farm, they were given many opportunities to travel for the next 40 years. Maurene always enjoyed different countries and resorts with State Farm friends. One of her favorite vacations was Hawaii, which she visited many times; also she enjoyed the trips to Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Monte Carlo. For the past 46 years, Maurene has been a member of Sacred Heart Church, being involved in the choir for 35 years and volunteering in many activities at the parish. She was also a member of several quilting/sewing groups in the area. Maurene's greatest joys were being with her family and as the grandchildren arrived they were her pride and joy. Maurene enjoyed sewing, quilting, singing, listening to music, dancing, reading, photography and spending time with the family dogs. One of Maurene's legacies will be her smile always present. She loved people and it showed. For the last 11 years she slowly lost her talents and abilities due to early onset Alzheimer's, but she continued her smile and facial expressions. The love shown to her by the staff of the nursing home and fellow residents, along with the staff of Home Instead Senior Care was proof of that. Maurene passed away at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa, on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Keith Schneckloth; and grandson, Alex Maldonado. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, Gary of Spencer, Iowa; three sons: Scott and wife Kim of Marion, Iowa; Jeff and wife Lezlie Leier of Niwot, Colorado; Todd of Westminster, Colorado; ten grandchildren: Jessica (Josh) St. Aubin, Tyler (Megan) Ogburn, Keavon Jones, Kelsea Ogburn, Tanner Ogburn, Austin Ogburn, Drew (Maggie) Maldonado, Triston Ogburn, Jaiden Ogburn and Greyson Ogburn; four great grandchildren: Andrew St. Aubin, Gabriella St. Aubin, Elena Ogburn, and Grey Maldonado; one sister, Carole (Jerry) Creger; sister-in-law, Debbie Schneckloth; and many other special family members and friends.
