Maurice W. Johnson

Maurice William Johnson, the son of Orville and Lois (Barnes) Johnson, was born May 29, 1916, in Sac City, Iowa. He was educated in the Newell School System graduating in 1934. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Newell. In 1937 he married Esther Nelson, and they had three children Kay Maurcine, Judith Ann and Orville Carl. Maurice farmed near Storm Lake, was a cattle feeder and was a member of the Sulpher Springs School Board. Maurice married Jean Batchellar on May 18, 1961. They farmed near Milford, Iowa until retirement in 1979, when they moved to Florida for ten years. While there, Maurice was an active member of the Ft. Pierce Coast Guard Auxiliary and he also enjoyed deep-sea fishing. The couple loved to travel together, taking many trips around the U.S. in their motor home. They returned to Spencer in 1989. They continued to travel to Florida, Texas and Arizona in the winter, taking their last trip in 1998. Maurice passed away, with his family at his side, at the Longhouse Residence on May 9, 2007 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by parents, his first wife and two brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jean of Spencer, IA; two daughters: Kay Reiche and her husband Gunter of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Judy Mitola and her husband, Richard of Lakewood, CO; one son, Orville Johnson and his wife, Terie of Pleasant Prairie, WI; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Crilly of Newell, IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Memorials may be given to the Congregational Church in Newell, Iowa

Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M.,Saturday, September 1, 2007.
