Maurine Agnes Peterson

Maurine Agnes Peterson, the daughter of Adolf Hans and Laura Ellen Dyer Gravlund, was born April 25, 1925 in Emmetsburg, IA. She received her early education in country schools. Maurine married Lester Raymond Kathman in 1939 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Estherville and Emmetsburg. In 1953, Maurine married Leslie Peterson at the Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Following their marriage, they lived in Emmetsburg and then in Ruthven where they owned and operated a bakery. In 1962, they moved to Spencer where Maurine worked at Sernnets, Truck Haven and sold Stanley Home Products. Maurine was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. She also took care of several elderly people. In her spare time, Maurine enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, weaving rugs, fishing and camping. She especially loved spending time and caring for her family. Maurine passed away at the Spencer Hospital on November 11, 2008 at the age of 83. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her son, Bill; grandsons: Monty and Robert; granddaughter, Megan; daughter-in-law, Sondra and brother, Cleo. She is survived by her children: Jerry & Annette Kathman of Ayrshire, Ruth & Ronald Hanson of Ayrshire, Roger & Carol Kathman of Spencer, Janice & Skip Wallace of Emmetsburg, Debra & Gene McGuire of Spencer and Donna Peterson of Greenville, IL; daughter-in-law, Mary Kathman of Ayrshire; 22 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sister, Leola & Larry Kliegl of Emmetsburg; other relatives and many friends.
