Maxine Alice Burdette

June 4, 1922 — October 25, 2012

Maxine Alice (Prentice) Burdette, the daughter of Lawrence and Kate (Whalen) Prentice was born June 4th, 1922 on a farm in Logan Township in Clay County, Iowa. After attending 8 years in the country school in that township, she continued her education and graduated from Gillett Grove Consolidated School in 1940. On December 25th, 1940, Maxine was united in marriage to August Burdette. They lived in Emmetsburg for 2 years then moved to a farm near Gillett Grove where they lived and farmed for over 60 years. Maxine was an active member of the Gillett Grove Community Methodist Church and UMW. Her hobby was her family! Nothing brought her more joy than fixing food for meals together, babysitting the grandchildren and great grandchildren, and gardening in her flowerbeds. Her pastimes were puzzles, embroidering (in her younger years), reading, and again cooking just in case somebody dropped by. There was always a full meal ready to go, including strawberry pie. On October 25th, 2012, Maxine went to heaven for a glorious reunion with her beloved husband, her only son, Jerry, and God's only son, Christ Jesus. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother John, and sisters Zelda, Wanda, Helen, Lois, and Eunice, and 1 great granddaughter, Riley Ann Murray. Left to cherish her memory and recipes are four daughters: Marie (Wendell) Conover, of Lincoln NE, Sandra (John) Roehrick of Des Moines, IA, Audrey (Mark) Calmer, of Manson, IA, Jane (Dan) Gray of Logan, IA; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and her brother Lawrence Prentice, Jr. of MN.
