Maxwell Joseph Koch, the son of Mike and Madeline (Schmid) Koch was born April 5, 1930 in Peterson, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Spencer area, where he graduated from Spencer High School in 1948. He went on to attend the University of Iowa.
Max married the love of his life Joanne Humphrey on March 26, 1951 in Spencer, IA. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1955. He owned and operated Koch Delivery for 35 years.
Max enjoyed playing poker, bowling, crossword puzzles, and cheering for his beloved Yankees. He also enjoyed coaching little league, high school and American Legion baseball. In his later years, he loved watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
Max passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the age of 86, at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry; 2 brothers, Herb and Mick; one sister, Betty Stell and great grand-daughter Avery Engkjer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanne of Spencer, IA; 4 children, Steve (Nanette) of Sioux City, IA, Marty (Connie) of Spencer, IA, Doug (Diane) of Phoenix, AZ, and Kathy (Dave) Thome of Arvada, CO; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends; especially his card playing buddies.
SERVICES
Funeral services will take place 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Sacered Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
