Melanie Lynn Nellis, the daughter of Dale and Linda (Aakhus) Nellis was born August 29, 1962 in Hartley, Iowa. They lived in Spencer until 1965, when they moved to Sutherland. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. She was a baptismal sponsor for these special girls: Olivia Jara, Autumn Nellis, and Hailee James. She went to school and graduated from Sutherland High School. She continued her education at WIT in Sioux City and became an LPN. In 1983, she moved to Arizona, where she worked as a private duty nurse for 20 years and later worked in nursing homes.
She met Ron Ford in Arizona and they were married. He had a son Jerry Ford, a daughter Connie (Jerry) Cook and four step grandchildren: Lindsay, Emma, Logan and Allison. Ron preceded her in death on February 17, 2007.
Melanie died on September 19, 2011 at her home in Scottsdale, AZ at the age of 49. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Julie and an infant niece, Payton.
She is survived by her parents: Dale and Linda Nellis of Sutherland; one sister, Kimberly (Mauricio) Jara of Tempe, AZ; one brother, Mark (Amy) Nellis of Melvin, IA and Jason Nellis of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces: Daniela (Tim) Warren, Olivia, Autumn, Lily and Grace Lynn; nephews: Esteban, Gabe, Shane, David, Tyler and Dylan and a great niece, Clara Warren; many other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Joint Memorial services for Melanie and Jason Nellis will be held 1:30 P.M., Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
