Melba (Pauling) Fuller, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Gaudian) Pauling, was born January 7, 1923 near Primghar, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent near Germantown, where she received her early education through the 6th grade at St. John Lutheran Church School. Melba was baptized on January 28, 1923 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown and confirmed on August 30, 1936 at Bethany Evangelical Church in Sutherland, IA She later moved to a farm near Sutherland, where she continued her education. She moved to Harris, IA in 1942.
Melba married William F. Fuller on July 6, 1947 at Harris, IA. After their marriage, they farmed in the Spirit Lake area for eight years and then moved to Spencer in 1955. Over the years, she worked as a Nursing Assistant at Delaney Nursing Home. She also did home health care and cleaned homes. Melba was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she was a guild member. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, and volunteering at St. Luke Lutheran Home, sewing names onto residents clothing.
She passed away at Cobble Creek Nursing Facility in Spencer, IA on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1995; one son, Larry and a brother, Melvin Pauling.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Sherlyn (Tom) Benham of Sanger CA and Collette (Steve) Doman of Lake Oswega, OR; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diane Fuller of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
