Merle "Tate" William Adams, the son of Merle William and Lena (Olmstead) Adams, was born April 16, 1928 in Gillett Grove, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Gillett Grove, where he received his education, graduating from Gillett Grove High School. After his schooling, Merle entered the military and served with the U.S. Marines from August of 1946 until his honorable discharge in August of 1948.
Merle married Lorraine Elda Fuller on June 10, 1951, in Gillett Grove and he drove truck for Gibson Trucking for a few years. In 1963, they moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked as a mechanic at Goodyear. In 1980, they moved back to Gillett Grove and later worked at Witco Company as a machinist until his retirement. In his last years, he was a resident of the Laurens Care Center, where he helped the office girls out by putting away the supplies. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gillett Grove. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing and playing golf.
He passed away at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the age of 86. Merle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine; one son, Terry Adams and a grandson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Zane (Brenda) Adams of Jourdanton, TX, Donald (Sandra) Adams of DeBary, Florida, Gerald (Cherie) Adams of Broomfield, CO, Debra (Pat) Brogan of Texas and Karen (Terry) Simpson of Marathon, IA; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Nyra (Calvin) Brown of Watertown, SD and Dixon (Bett) Adams of Pensecola, FL; a sister-in-law, Ila Raynor; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Graveside Memorial Services will be held 1:30 P.M., Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
