Merlon William Tesch, the son of John and Sophia Koehlmoos Tesch, was born on July 3, 1926, on a farm southwest of Paullina, Iowa. He attended parochial school in Germantown, Iowa. Merlon was confirmed on July 6, 1941 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. On February 1, 1945 he entered into the military serving in the United States Army. Merlon was stationed in the Philippines. While in the service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Merlon was honorably discharged on January 13, 1947.
On October 3, 1948, Merlon married Marilyn Sampson in Hartley, IA. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Hartley and Paullina before settling back in Hartley on the family farm in 1953. Merlon was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Arthur Kirchoff Post #228. He liked to fish and hunt in his younger years and enjoyed putting puzzles together and doing word finds in his retirement.
Merlon passed away at his home on Monday, June 11, 2007, at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Steven; one sister and three infant siblings.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn of Hartley, IA; one daughter, Cindy Cook and her husband, Conrad of Hartley, IA; one son, Robert Tesch and his wife, Sedaj of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren: Steffan and Anna Tesch; six step-grandchildren: Dawn, Troy, Season, Khara, Emmi and Erica; two sisters: Margaret Byers of CA and Millie Krambeck of Galva, IA; one brother, Melvin Tesch and his wife, Dorothy of Paullina, IA; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30a.m., Friday, June 15, 2007 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa
