Michael James Houchins

Michael James Houchins, the son of Jim and Nancy Peterson Houchins, was born December 9, 1959 in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended grade school in Stratford, Iowa. He graduated from Ogden Community Schools in Ogden, Iowa in 1978. He received his under graduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1984 and his law degree from Drake University in 1987. On December 23, 1982 he married Jeanne Janzow of St. Ansgar, Iowa. They have one son Mitchell and one granddaughter, Summer Rose. His professional career included assistant county attorney in Cerro Gordo County and Story County. After moving to Spencer, he was in law practice with Mike Zenor. In 2012, he became full time Clay County Attorney. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church ELC. Mike enjoyed coaching his son, Mitchell in youth baseball, hunting, fishing, golf and most of all his granddaughter, Summer. Mike passed away on April 19, 2015 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 55. He will be missed by his family and his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Spencer; son, Mitchell of Spencer; granddaughter, Summer Rose of Spencer; his parents: Jim and Nancy Houchins of Arnolds Park, IA; his sister, Laura Mendez and her husband, Gerald of New Braunfels, TX; other relatives and friends.
