Mildred Eva Mugge, daughter of Wayne and Grace Morgan Yoakam, was born April 5, 1915, in Webster, IA.
At the age of two she moved with her parents to a farm near Hedrick, Iowa. It was there that she received her childhood education and grew to adulthood, graduating from Martinsburg, IA, high school in 1931. Following her graduation she continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa). She began her teaching career in the rural schools of Iowa before moving on to teach at New Hartford and Newton, IA, before finishing her teaching career at Sioux Falls, SD.
On June 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lyle J. Mugge. They established their home on a farm near Calumet, IA, and continued to live there until retirement. During those years Mrs. Mugge was active in her church at Calumet and also in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Federated Women's' Club.
Following retirement she and her husband moved to Spencer. There she was an active member in the First Congregational Church as well as in the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
Mrs. Mugge passed away December 12, 2010, at St. Luke Nursing Home, having reached the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lyle, and her brother, Donald Yoakam.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three sons: Wayne (wife Emily), Dike, IA; Paul (wife Karen), Sutherland, IA; John (partner Ronald Caltabiano), San Francisco, CA; and her daughter, Judith Miles, Sioux Falls, SD; as well as six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
