Mildred M. Beedle

Mildred Marcel Beedle was born on April 28, 1921 to Harry and Alta Johnson Simpson, the last of three daughters born to the family. Known throughout her life as 'Tootie' to her friends and family, she grew up in Spencer, IA with her parents and sisters, Florence and Evelyn, living only a few blocks from the Clay County Fairgrounds and attended the Spencer Public School system until her graduation. She was fond of dances at the Woodcliff and the Cobblestone and met her future husband, Thomas L. Beedle at one of the many dances she attended in the area. Thomas and Mildred were united in marriage on January 2, 1942 and lived on Emma Mickelson's farm in Lincoln Township, Buena Vista County, where Thomas worked as a hired hand. Their only daughter, Donna Lee was born on May 26, 1944 in what was then Sioux Rapids Hospital. Thomas and Mildred eventually moved to Arnolds Park, IA, where Thomas worked as a handyman and carpenter for many of the area residents. They enjoyed playing cards with friends and looked forward to the summer months when their cousins, Darrell and Lillian Sorey, from Las Vegas, NV would return and when the excitement of the area would pick up. Mildred's final years were spent at St. Luke's nursing facility where she enjoyed visits from family and friends and looked eagerly forward to whatever sweet treat they would be bringing along with them for her. She passed away peacefully on November 27, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Alta; her husband, Thomas; her two sisters, Florence Skov of Spencer, IA and Evelyn Handy of Ruthven, IA. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Hansen of Everly, IA her grandsons, Thomas Bruns of Everly, IA and Colin Hansen of Montgomery, AL, her great-grandson Shaun Hansen of Montgomery, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
