Mildred Mae Phelps

Mildred "Millie" Mae Phelps, the daughter of Henry and Miriam (Davis) Hennigar, was born November 21, 1930 in Sheffield, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Clarion, Iowa, where she received her education in the Clarion School System. Millie married Robert Ray Phelps on February 2, 1952 in Jackson, MN. They made their home in Royal, where she spent her time raising her family. She took a lot of pride in helping with community projects in Royal, including establishing a Youth Center and volunteering with the fund raising, construction and development of the Memorial Park outdoor sports park. She was a member of the Royal United Methodist Church. Following her husband's death in October of 1979, Millie moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she worked for many years for Verco and had managed Westview Apartments up until the time of her death. Millie passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; 2 brothers: Harold and Kenneth and a sister, Pauline. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kay Wagner and her husband, Bob of Creston, IA, Gay Phelps of Spencer, Sue Phelps of Sioux City, IA and Robert Phelps, Jr. of Spencer, IA; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters: Inez Weidemann and her husband, Merle of Dows, IA, Darleen Headley of Marion, IA, Alan Hennigar and his wife, Janet of Clarion, IA, Lavoun Winkler Webster City, IA and Lloyd Hennigar and his wife, Peggy of Runnels, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26 at Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa.
