Mildred Rosa Ebel, the daughter of Jesse and Pearl (Linder) Lyman, was born September 11, 1925, on a farm near Melvin, IA. Her family moved into town when she was four years old. She graduated from Melvin High School in 1943. She was employed as a clerk in the Melvin Post Office until her marriage to Melvin Ebel of Primghar, IA, on November 12, 1945. They lived in Primghar for three years, and then purchased the service station two miles west of Melvin. They lived there until moving to Diagonal, IA, where Melvin was an auctioneer in the sale barn. In 1955, they moved to Spencer, IA.
Mildred worked three years at the Rexall Drug Store, and 12 years at the Spencer Super Value. She opened the Spencer Thrift Shop and ran it until her retirement in 1987.
Mildred and Melvin took in foster children. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, and volunteered at the Spencer Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2000; sister, Clara Boatwright; brother, Arthur Lyman; daughter-in-law, Joi Ebel; and foster daughter, Sharon Fortner.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Marvin and wife, Kathy of Chickamauga, GA; two granddaughters: Maria Ebel and fiance, Mark Thomas of Chattanooga, TN, and Melodee Ebel of Atlanta, GA; five great-grandchildren; her foster daughter, Kathy Holmes of Emmetsburg, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2016, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Spencer, Iowa.
