Milton Burdette Geidl

Spencer

     Milton Burdette Geidl, the son of Case Corwin and Eva (Kirkpatrick) Geidl, was born May 10, 1928, in Miami, Florida.  His childhood years were spent in Miami and Sioux City, IA, where he received his education.  Burdette entered the military in 1946 and served with the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1949.

     Burdette married Vivian Quist on April 11, 1951.  After their marriage, they lived in Spencer, IA, where he worked as a grocery clerk for Super Valu and Swanson Grocery Stores.  He was an active member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and the Blind Veterans Association.  Burdette was also a member of the Lion’s Club in Spencer. Many know Burdette as the gentleman who walked many miles of Spencer streets with his four leader dogs: Ben, Mike, Java and Fletcher.  As a Spencer Lions Club member, Burdette Raised money for area youth and for the Leader Dogs for the Blind program.  The former “Lion of the Year” honoree also raised awareness as a speaker.

     He passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the age of 89.  He was preceded in death by parents and one sister, Rhodabelle Bisaillon.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vivian of Spencer; one daughter, Doreen Findling of Spencer; two sons: Rick (Connie) Geidl of Spencer and Randy (Sande) Geidl of Sioux City; 5 grandkids: Chad Geidl, Dawn Frein, Todd Findling, Stacy Lauseng and Amy Allen; 18 great grandkids; 1 great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.

SERVICES
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 14, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
