Muriel Frances Moore, the daughter of Frank and Winifred Moore, was born April 25, 1927 in Sutherland, Iowa. Her childhood and school age years were spent helping with the family restaurant, Moore's Caf�. After graduation, she attended business school for banking in Omaha, Nebraska. Muriel married Rex Conrad Martin on November 14, 1949 in Sutherland, Iowa. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm north of Sutherland where Muriel and Rex farmed until 1963. After Rex sustained a back injury, they had to stop farming & they moved to town. Muriel worked as a bookkeeper at the elevator until 1977 and then worked at the Security State Bank until her retirement in 1994.
Muriel loved music of all kinds. She was a cornet player and a member of the coronet trio in school. Muriel learned the guitar and was also a pianist throughout the years. She also loved singing in the choir. Muriel enjoyed playing sports. She played on the Sutherland girl's softball team and was competitive in bowling and golf. Muriel was a Girls Association Leader and Auxiliary Leader.
Muriel collected music boxes, loved puzzles, reading, crafts, sewing, latch hook, cooking, gardening, flowers, birds and dogs. When the world changed to a computer age, Muriel accepted and embraced that change and mastered the computer. Muriel and Rex would have been married 61 years in November.
Muriel passed away at her daughter's home in Omaha on October 8, 2010 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex; daughter, Jolene; and brothers, Leo and Charles.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, James and wife, Susan; two daughters: Judy Katskee and husband, Mitch, and Jani Martin; grandchildren: Mandy Smock and husband, Pete, Joi, Jimmy, Marty and Maggie Katskee; great-grandchildren: Claire and Jack Smock, all from Omaha, NE; two sisters: Mary Jane Bruton and Eileen Petersen; and many other relatives & friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland.
