Muriel Mae Johnson the daughter of Archie and Charlotte (Vander Hoff) Hines, was born on October 3, 1921, on a farm near Royal, IA. She received her education in country schools and graduated from Royal High School in 1939. After graduation, she attended the University of Iowa for one year, then beauty school in Sioux City. She worked at St. Francis Beauty Shop in Des Moines.
She returned to the area and married Roy Johnson on May 10, 1942 in Royal. She worked at the A&P Grocery Store while Roy was in the military, during WWII. After he returned from the service, they farmed near Royal. Muriel enjoyed being on the farm and being outside. She liked to garden and help Roy. She enjoyed dancing and traveling with their friends. Muriel was a loving mother and grandmother and family was very important to her. The couple moved to the Highlands in 1997 and she moved to St Luke's in 2014.
Muriel passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Luke's at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001 and her sister, Jean DeBoom.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Michael (Barbara) of Spencer, IA and Thomas (Barbara) of Spencer, IA; 4 grandchildren: Eric Johnson (Jean), Heather Holcomb (Jason), Greg Johnson (Jocelyn) and Doug Johnson (Krista); 6 great grandchildren: Jacob Johnson, Josiah Johnson, Camren Johnson, Ryleigh Johnson, Ian Holcomb and Ryan Johnson; her sister, Helen Ginger of Riverside, CA; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 17, at The Highlands in Spencer.
