Muriel "Pud" Wynette White Schoelerman died on May 27th, 2011, at St. Luke Nursing Home. She was born June 22, 1923, in Rolfe, IA, to Louis Augustine White and Ruth Wilson White. The family lived and worked on several farms in northwest Iowa. Muriel loved being outdoors and was very active in 4-H. After graduating from Spencer High School in 1940, she attended AIB business school in Des Moines. She returned to Spencer and worked for Bjornstad Drugstore as bookkeeper as a secretary and later for Dr. C. Collister. In 1945 she married Stan Schoelerman. They lived and farmed on the Schoelerman family farm south of Everly. In 1964, the family moved to Spencer. While living in Spencer, Muriel became a certified Brailler for the Iowa Commission for the Blind. She translated over 50 books and textbooks into Braille for students in Iowa. Muriel was also active in Eastern Star, P.E.O., and the First Congregational Church. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years.
Pud enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, dressing up for Halloween as a witch, spending time with her cat, 'Boots,' and going antiquing with her daughters. She was known in the community for her home made "Red River Cereal" bread.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, L. Stanley Schoelerman; her children, Deb Schoelerman (Paul Pomrehn) of Iowa City, Tom Schoelerman of West Des Moines, Lisa Schoelerman of Stillwater, MN; grandchildren Andrea Pomrehn Myers (Ward) of Boston MA, Teri Pomrehn Birch (John) of Ft. Defiance, AZ, Greg Pomrehn (Charissa) of Pasadena, CA, Katie Pud Baumetz of Stillwater, MN and three great-grandchildren, Clara, Lewis and Noah. She is also survived by siblings Robert White (Marilyn) of Peterson, Patricia Hossack (Ivan) and Martha Hoover (Herbert) of Marian, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, L.A. White.
The family expresses their gratitude to Iowa Hospice and the staff at St. Luke Lutheran Home.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
