Naomi Jean Adams

October 30, 1922 — September 9, 2021

Manning

Naomi Jean Adams, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Paulsen) Jespersen, was born October 30, 1922 in rural Royal, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent in Royal, where she received her education, graduating from Royal High School in 1940 as valedictorian of her class.  After high school, she worked as a telephone operator, just as did her mother.

Naomi married Harry Adams on September 5, 1943 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal, IA.  After their marriage, they farmed from 1943 to 1986 near Royal. Three children blessed this marriage:  Nancy Kay, Ned J. and Jean Carol.  Naomi and Harry were active members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and competing at the fair.  Naomi was well known for her Danish puff pastries and spritz cookies.  During the farming years, their daughter, Nancy, was tragically killed in a car accident.

Naomi and Harry retired to a lake home in Wahpeton in 1986, and enjoyed many years of boating and socializing with neighbors.  A visit to their home often involved fried chicken, cookies, coffee, playing pool and watching sporting events on TV.  Naomi was a fantastic cook!   Naomi and Harry were active members of First Lutheran Church of Milford during their retirement years.

For the past two years, Naomi lived on Jean’s farm where she received personal care and assistance from Jean.  Naomi experienced a recent fall that broke her hip; it was repaired successfully by surgery, but she experienced a heart attack shortly thereafter.

She passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the age of 98.  Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry in 2011; her daughter, Nancy Adams, son-in-law Mike Ferneding, and her siblings: Ruth Barnard, Eunice Binder, Donald Jespersen and Wesley Jespersen.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ned (Donna) Adams of Ankeny, IA; her daughter, Jean Ferneding of Manning, IA; grandchildren Josh Adams (Julie Hughes) of Newtown, CT; Kelly Ferneding (Nathaniel Renteria) of Chicago, IL; Nick Adams of Denton, TX and John Ferneding of Templeton, IA; other relatives and friends.
