Neil Swanson, 67, passed away quietly at home after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s on October 13, 2020, with his loving wife Starla, daughter Kyle, brother Glenn, and Darlene by his side. Neil was born March 19, 1953 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He spent his early years in Northern Minnesota, until his family moved to Minneapolis. Neil, notably, spent two years in the Air Force and was Honorably Discharged in 1973. In 2018, Neil and Starla moved to Spencer where he spent the remainder of his days.
Neil was a family man through and through. The love Neil had for his family was deep and true. Neil spent the last 38 years with the love of his life, Starla. You could see the adoration he had for Starla any time you were around them. He was also a man of faith, who passed that faith to his children Kyle Ann and Nathan. His love of travel took him on many adventures from Hawaii to Philadelphia to the Caribbean. He enjoyed bike riding, square dancing, geo-caching with family, playing and coaching softball. Neil was never without a joke, a quick witty statement, or finding a way to get a good laugh from everyone around him. The twinkle he had in his eyes is one you would never forget.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife Starla of Spencer, Iowa. Daughter Kyle Ann (Scott) Heppenstall of Port Orchard, WA. Son, Nathan (Sarah) Swanson of Philadelphia, PA. Siblings, Les, Glenn (Darlene), Tim, and Julie (Rick) Baum. His Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, nephews and nieces, as well as many extended family members.
Neil is preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Myrtle Swanson, and his sister Suzanne.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for a Memorial Fund in Neil’s name.
