Nelda Frances Baker

Nelda Frances Baker, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Plagman) Burgeson, was born September 28, 1909 in Oakes, ND. Her childhood years were spent in the Peterson, Iowa area, where she received her early education in country schools, later graduating from Peterson High School. Nelda married Wayne Lowell Baker on July 11, 1928 at her parent's house north of Peterson. Throughout most of their married life, they farmed north of Peterson. In 1967, they built a house in Peterson, where they continued to live for many years, during their retirement. In 2005, Nelda moved to St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Peterson, where she was a Sunday school teacher, part of the church board of directors and was Women's Society President. On Friday, February 5, 2010, Nelda passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 100 years, four months and seven days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 1981; a daughter, Diana in 1988; 2 brothers: Glen in 2001 and Clifford in 2002 and two sisters: Opal in 2005 and Florence in 2008. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Douglas and his wife, Shirley Baker of Sun Lakes, AZ; a son-in-law, John Benz of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild other relatives and friends.
