Nellie Lucile Alderman

     Nellie Lucille Hull Alderman was born June 26, 1927 to Rev. George & Nellie (Wellman) Hull in Harvey, ND. Nellie was the youngest of their four children. Her older brothers were Andrew, Roswell and Wellington (Jack). Growing up, Nell lived in different areas where her father’s pastoral care took them.

     Nellie graduated from Casselton High School. She attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, where she received her teaching degree. Nellie’s first teaching job was grade school Vocal Music and junior high Social Studies at Lisbon, ND. She also taught grade school music in Akron, IA.

     Nellie married Robert Alderman on August 4, 1957 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. They moved to Lansing, MI before moving back to Iowa. In 1969, Nellie joined the faculty of the Spencer Schools where she taught 9th grade Civics. Her post graduate studies were done at Buena Vista, Drake University and University of Northern Iowa. In 1987 she was honored as “Outstanding Female Educator”. After 23 years of teaching, Nellie retired. She was the Spencer Relay’s Honorary Referee.

     Nellie was an active member of First Congregational Church. She sang in the church choir and directed the Junior Choir for many years. She had a generous heart and enjoyed nature.

     Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bob of Spencer, IA; nieces and nephews, Rev. George Hull of Chicago, IL; Mary (Hull) Swiers of Huddleston, VA, Pamela (Hull) Givens of Abernathy, TX, Deborah (Hull) Fischer of Dallas, TX; and Jack Hull of Lubbock, TX; as well as a multitude of other close friends.In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Church in Spencer, IA.

SERVICES
Funeral services will take place 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 11, at First Congregational Church in Spencer.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, April 10, at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, starting at 4:00 PM, with family present from 5-7:00 PM.
