Nina Genson, the daughter of Shadrick and Bessie (Russler) Gillespie was born November 29, 1912 in Highland Township near Sutherland, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Sutherland area where she received her early education.
During the war Nina lived and worked in San Francisco, CA before returning to Spencer where she worked at A&M Laundry and the Lamplighter Motel until her retirement in 1980. She moved to Lawton in 1986 for 10 years before moving to Sioux City. She enjoyed playing Bingo, Cribbage Pokeno, and other card games.
Nina passed away at the Sunrise Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA on July 8, 2010, at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jack Genson, a grandson, Tim Goodwin, 7 brothers; Archie, Harold, Merle, Maynard, Hershal, William, and Ronald, and 3 sisters; Mona, Helen, and Thelma.
She is survived by a daughter Barbara (John) Goodwin of Lawton, IA, a son Billie (LaDonna) Genson of Dallas, TX and a daughter-in-law Gladys Genson of Richardson, TX, 7 grandchildren; Angela, Tommy, Rusty, Lane, Tracy, Shad, and La Rena, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Graveside services will be held Monday July 12, at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland at 1:00 P.M.
