Norma Jean Raveling, the daughter of John and Serena (Norland) Plagman, was born January 1, 1932, in Clay County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Peterson and later Linn Grove, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Linn Grove High School.
Norma married Arden Raveling on February 5, 1950, in Linn Grove, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Peterson where they farmed until their retirement. She was active on the farm and worked side by side with Arden for many years. They later moved to the town of Peterson where they have since made their home. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Peterson where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship and was Treasurer for the church for nine years. Norma was a member of the Variety Club and helped with visitations at Warner Funeral Home. She was a substitute cook at the school, worked at Stub’s at the Clay County Fair and helped with packing for a moving company.
She passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, on Friday, August 30, 2019, at the age of 87. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter-in-law, Mary (Mrs. Rod Raveling).
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Arden; three sons: Rodney Raveling of Peterson, IA, Blair (Mary) Raveling of Linn Grove, IA, and Paul Raveling of Farmington, MN; four grandsons; two granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Weston (Donna) Plagman of Overland Park, KS; other relatives and many friends.
