Norvin Don Olson

March 28, 1928 — October 9, 2011

Norvin Don Olson, the son of Edd A. and Edith (Reardon) Olson, was born March 28, 1928 near Dickens, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Logan Township, where he attended country school and later graduated from Gillett Grove High School. Norvin married Virginia Mills on August 21, 1949 in Spencer, Iowa. They farmed south of Dickens, and in 1957 Norvin went to Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Mason City, IA. Norvie began his career in auctioneering which lasted 50 years. In 1960, he began selling livestock at the North Y Livestock Auction Barn. He loved to do all kinds of auctions and really enjoyed all the people he met during those years. Norvie also spent 39 years in the real estate business after getting his real estate brokers license. Norvie and Ginny moved from the farm to Spencer in October of 1983. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. He was a member of the National Realtor's Association, Iowa Great Lake's Board of Realtors and was past president of the Iowa Auctioneers Association. Norvie had been a resident of the Ruthven Care Center since November 1, 2010. Norvie passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the age of 83. His parents and a son, Randall David, preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia of Spencer; one daughter, Rebecca Jo and her husband, Mike Sharar of Storm Lake, IA; two grandchildren: Megan Olerich of Chicago, IL and Amanda Olerich of Ames, IA; two step grandchildren: Amy Didier of Advance, NC and Emily Zlotkowski of Greensboro, NC; 5 step great grandchildren; two sisters: Maxine Vaa of Spencer, IA and Marjean Mohr of Glendale, AZ; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 P.M., Friday, October 14, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visiation will begin 2:30 P.M., Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday Evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
