Orlin Wayne Hein, the son of Rudy and Selma Zinn Hein, was born April 3, 1924, in Hartley, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. He received his early education and graduated from the Hartley High School in 1942. Orlin enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served for 2 years in the Atlantic Area. He then was employed at Swift and Company and Cascade Laundry in Sioux City, Iowa.
Orlin married Dorothy Tapper on February 3, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Akron, IA. Following their marriage, he farmed in the Hartley area until retiring in 1981. Orlin continued to raise horses and cattle as a hobby which he dearly loved. Orlin was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, served as a Committee member of the A.S.C., 4-H Club and for over 30 years he worked at the Clay County Fair. Orlin loved and cherished his granddaughters.
Orlin passed away on September 29, 2010, at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn at the age of 86. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bruce in 1980 and brother, Clarence Hein in 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters and their husbands: Michelle & Terry Triebwasser of Dell Rapids, SD and Melissa and Kelvin Edmundson of Garretson, SD; 5 granddaughters: Amanda, Jessica and Kayla Triebwasser, Cheyenne and Haley Edmundson; two sisters: Marlys Foster (Ivan) of New Rockford, ND and Teresa Durst (Denny) of Warsaw, IN; sister-in-law, Jeanne Hein; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 4, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa.
