Patricia Ann Baumgarten

Patricia Ann Baumgarten, the daughter of Leonard and Ruth Boernsen Adams, was born September 18, 1949 in Hartley, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian Faith and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She graduated from Hartley High School in 1967 and was the Iowa State Shorthorn Lassie Queen in 1967. She was united in marriage to Steve Baumgarten on October 18, 1968. They made their home in Hartley until 1978, Spencer until 1998, Clive until 2003, and in Waukee, IA since 2003. Pat had been employed at the Hartley Elementary School, the Hartley Post Office, and after her marriage was active in the ownership and operation of the Baumgarten Funeral Homes until the business was sold in 1993. She then began her dream career as a design consultant, working for five years for Steffen Furniture in Spencer and then for seven years for Sunderland Brothers Company in Urbandale. While in Spencer she was very active in First English Lutheran Church, serving on the Board of Education, Chairing Vacation Bible School, and helping to start the Christian Preschool. She was also a member of PEO Chapter KF, Questors, Federated Women's Club, a Brownie/Girl Scout Leader, and a Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed playing bridge and golf. While living in Clive and Waukee she was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale where she enjoyed Bible Class and Miriam Circle. She truly lived her faith. She was a member of Chapter CJ of PEO and had recently joined the Waukee and Des Moines Quilters. She died on February 16, 2006 after a short illness while vacationing in Mexico. Her health had been in jeopardy since 2001 when she was diagnosed with Amyloidosis, culminating with a stem cell transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Steve of Waukee; her son and his wife, Steve, Jr. and Mandy (Wisniewsky) Baumgarten of Gilbert, AZ; her one grandson Nolan Baumgarten born January 29, 2006 whose birth she attended in Gilbert; two daughters, Claudia Baumgarten of Urbandale, and Bess and her husband Kolby Rosengreen of Prairie Village, KS; her mother, Ruth Adams of Hartley, Iowa; two brothers, David of Sheboygan, WI and Tom and his wife Sharon (Steensma) Adams of Hartley; two sisters, Veronica and her husband Ivan Groneveld of Parkersburg, IA, and Emily and her husband Dr. William Wagner of Edina, MN; her mother-in-law, Julie Baumgarten of Tucson, AZ as well as several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Claudia Adams in 1975 her father, Leonard in 2005 and her father-in-law, Elmer 2001.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.

Pleasant View Cemetery Hartley, Iowa A time of lunch and fellowship will follow the graveside services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa
