Paul Allen Krile

March 31, 1928 — October 4, 2011

Paul Allen Krile, the son of Walter and Thelma (Slay) Krile, was born March 31, 1928, in Truax, IA. He attended high school in Parkersburg and Sioux Rapids, and served in the United States Army National Guard in the late 1940's. He married Shirley Schmidt on May 29, 1949 in Spencer, IA. Paul began his business career operating grocery stores in Spencer, and then in Sioux Rapids. Eventually, he took over day-to-day operation of Ranco Fertiservice after the two other founders were killed in a small plane crash at the Spencer Municipal Airport. The firm recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary and Paul was able to attend the huge parade put on by residents and friends. Paul was extremely proud of Sioux Rapids and its residents, and remained a staunch supporter of the community throughout his life, supporting efforts to sustain the fire department and ambulance service. Paul was a member of the Four Nubbins barbershop quartet, which was organized by his brother, Harold, in 1947. The quartet became nationally acclaimed, winning several awards, including the Central States Championship in 1966. They were also invited to USO tours to the Far East and Cuba. They entertained audiences in 40 states for 28 years. Paul passed away at home on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Thelma, his brother, Harold Krile, and his wife, Shirley. Left to cherish his memory are 2 sons, Jeff (Missy) Krile of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Doug (Judie) Krile of North Little Rock, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Maggie and Jack, both of West Des Moines, Iowa, Allison Krile of Waco, Texas, Thane (TR) (Tara) Krile, of Katy, Texas, and Shayla (Bryce) Teater of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother, Robert Krile, of Spencer, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives; special friends, from Ranco and his caregiver as well as friend, Mindy Ross of Milford.
