Paul Douglas Verner

March 30, 1958 — June 15, 2018

Spencer

Paul Douglas Verner, the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Williams) Verner, was born on March 30, 1958.  He graduated from Spencer High School.

His father taught him all about hard work and he began working with his father at the age of 15 at the local lumberyard, Spencer Lumber.  He stayed working there for 45 years.  Doug married Deb Witzel in 1979, to this union, two children were born.

Doug enjoyed everyone he met throughout the years.  He always put everyone else first.  He lived a simple life and enjoyed doing things for others.  He had a heart of gold.  He loved his friends and family, but his pride and joy were his two daughters and two grandchildren.  He loved and cherished every minute he could spend with them.  He especially enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s ballgames.  Doug also enjoyed watching his Iowa Hawkeyes, NFL, NASCAR and reruns of his favorite country westerns, especially Gunsmoke.  He enjoyed watching movies and was excited when he finally learned how to get a movie out of the Redbox machine.

Doug passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2018 at the age of 60.  He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Elizabeth Verner, infant brother James Russell whom Doug was eager to meet him and now got his wish.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters:  Jennie (Jesse) Yeager and Jodi Verner; sisters: Alice Brooks, Connie Khounlo and Paul Stoffel all of Spencer and Edith Lopez of Des Moines; his beloved grandchildren: Ashlyn Yeager and Kale Dodge; other relatives, friends and co-workers.  Doug would always say, “See ya later buds!”

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
