Paul Duane Wittrock

November 26, 1934 — May 28, 2008

Paul Duane Wittrock, a resident of Sutherland, Iowa, a Christian man with a kind and generous soul, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the age of 73. He was the only son born to George & Merle Wittrock on November 26, 1934. Paul's youthful years were spent on the family operated farm in rural Sutherland. He was fortunate enough to have an extended family, consisting of many aunts and uncles, as well as numerous cousins. During his adolescent years on the farm, Paul aspired to acquire an education of higher learning. He earned a Masters degree in Math from the University of Northern Iowa. In August of 1957, while still attending college, he married Ms. Sharrie Plagman. A large traditional Catholic family was planned since both of them grew up as only children. In the mid 60s, with his wife and five young children by his side, Paul moved the family to Tempe, Arizona. While in Arizona the last of their six children was born. Paul started his career within the semi-conductor industry working for Motorola, Inc. In 1973, his family of eight moved to San Jose, California and then on to Morgan Hill. Paul's career went on to include years of service with Fairchild Semiconductors, Dataquest and Apple Computer. Paul retired from work in order to care for his father who resided in Sutherland, Iowa. It was in Sutherland where he realized the joy and happiness that was waiting for him upon his return home. Paul was devoted to his family, his friends and to serving the local community which he loved so well. He was a member of the Sutherland Economic Development Board, the Sutherland Remembers When Committee, The North Western Aging Organization, Roritan, and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also volunteered and was interested in the Prairie Heritage Center and Bogenrief Studios. He was a true believer in giving a helping hand; even for simple things like offering a ride to someone in need. His hobbies included travel, bowling, movies and a good game of cards. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, generosity and respect for others. Left to cherish his memory, Paul is survived by: His six children: Gregory Wittrock and his wife Kristin of CO; Michael Wittrock of CA; Deanna Elliott and her husband Joseph of CA; Janeen Parminter and her husband Robert of CA; Douglas Wittrock of CA; and Andrea Tornquist and her husband Clay of RI. The mother of his six children: Sharrie Reardon of KY. His eight grandchildren: Christopher Wittrock, Jessica Elliott, Charleen Elliott, Holly Parminter, Samantha Parminter, Marilyn Parminter, Philip Tornquist and Amy Tornquist.
