Paul Harry Shearer

     Paul Harry Shearer, the son of Elmer Glade and Rose Mae (Cannon) Shearer, was born on August 13, 1929, in Bedford, IA. He grew up on a farm in Taylor County and attended school in Blockton where he graduated. Following high school, he entered into the military on January 16, 1951, serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on October 21, 1952. He then transferred to the Army Reserves serving until April 8, 1957. Following his military service, he worked for the Railroad, and then Northwestern Bell and later AT&T as an Installation Supervisor. He retired in 1989 after 37 years of service.

     On December 5, 1964, he married Roberta LaBrant in Spencer, IA. The two met each other when they worked at Northwestern Bell. His job took him to several communities and eventually they settled in Spencer. Paul enjoyed golfing and would set up golf groups for Wednesday and Saturday at the Spencer Country Club. He liked to goose and pheasant hunt, work in the yard and attend his grandsons sporting events. He was a Hawkeye fan, liked to play cards and winter at his home in Arizona. Paul loved being a grandfather, spending most of his time with his family, friends and his cat, Chloe.

     Paul passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, in Mesa, AZ, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alene Kangas and his son-in-law, Tim Radke.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Roberta, of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Paula Radke of Alta, IA; his grandsons: Nick Radke of Alta, IA ( Stephanie Stange) and Ryan Radke of Alta, IA (Courtney Paulsen); his brother, Don Shearer of Ladysmith, WI; his twin sister, Pauline Livingston of St. Louis, MO; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
