Paul William Grothe

Paul William Grothe, the son of Joe and Rose Hettenbach Grothe, was born July 2, 1939 in Creighton, Nebraska. His early childhood years were spent in Creighton and at age 9, his family moved to Forest City, Iowa, where he continued his education, graduating from Forest City High School in 1957. He moved to Sutherland, Iowa in 1957 and worked in road construction a short time, while living with Jennie & Horace Martin. Paul also worked driving a rendering truck for Bob Steuermann for a few years. Paul married Carolyn Otten on October 17, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Peterson. Following their marriage, they moved to Storm Lake, where he worked at Vilas Feed Store. He worked for Consumer Supply hauling feed and grain for 7 years. He moved to a farm near Sutherland, where he worked for Wilson's in Cherokee, while working part-time for the elevator and farming part-time for several farmers. Paul and Carolyn moved to Britt for a short period of time, where he worked for Winnebago, until moving back to Sutherland. In Sutherland, they farmed for 12 years, moving into the town of Sutherland, where he started trucking (Paul's Trucking). Paul passed away on his mother's birthday on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose & Joe Grothe; his stepmother, Jennie Grothe and a brother, Joey Grothe. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Sutherland; his children: Mike Grothe of Janesville, IA, Paula Wienhold and her husband, Rick of Alta, IA and Steve Grothe and his wife, Tammy of Sioux Rapids, IA; Elaine and John Weir of Sioux Falls, SD; his two grandchildren: Rachel & Conner Wienhold of Alta; his brothers and sisters: Theresa Zila of Lake Mills, IA, Jennie Brouwer and her husband, Jake of Britt, IA, Frieda and her husband, Merrill Olson of Britt, IA, Jim Grothe and his wife, Josie of Iowa Falls, IA, Don Grothe and his wife, Ila of Lake Mills and Dick Grothe and his wife, Sandy of Leland, IA; other relatives and many friends.
