Pauline Eva Kaus, the daughter of Henry and Lulu (Sebastian) Kaus, was born September 22, 1913 in Clay County, Iowa. She attended Clay County Rural School and later graduated from Spencer High School. Pauline attended Morningside College in Sioux City, where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She also continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, Colorado State University in Boulder, CO and later Drake University.
Pauline spent her lifetime teaching. She taught in the communities of Langdon, Ayrshire, Milford and Charles City. She was a lifetime member of the Langdon United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, she was an active associate member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pauline was active with the Methodist Women and held offices along the way. She was also a charter member of the Phi Chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa, honorary teacher's sorority and was a life member of the Iowa State Teacher's Education Association. Pauline was a life member of the Floyd County Historical Museum, and volunteered at St. John's Lutheran Church preschool. She was an active member of the Charles City Women's Club and was a member of the American Association of University Women from 1955 to 1999. She enjoyed stamp and thimble collecting, needlework, gardening, collecting poetry and articles of religious nature. Pauline also enjoyed growing house plants, the beauty of nature, and working outdoors. She liked to do things for people quietly without publicity.
Pauline passed away at Northshire Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kenneth and his wife, Ruth.
Left to cherish her memory are her nephew, David Kaus and his wife, Debbra of Spencer and their family Molly, Joseph and his wife, Briana; many other cousins and friends.
SERVICES
Graveside services will be held 1:30 P.M., Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa.
