Pearl Elizabeth Welle

December 29, 1910 — January 13, 2008

Pearl Elizabeth Arms Welle, daughter of Roy Elvin and Nora Mabel Garret Arms was born December 29, 1910 in rural Clay County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent on the Arms homestead near Greenville, Iowa. She attended the Greenville school where she graduated in 1927. On June 29, 1929, she married Lester Davis Welle in Fostoria, Iowa. They farmed south of Spencer before moving to their farm southwest of Milford. They also lived in California from 1965 to 1972 while Lester worked at Knott's Berry Farm in the Los Angeles area as a stagecoach driver, farrier and harness maker. Pearl was a member of Little Sioux Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau, Okoboji Garden Club and Iowa Great Lakes Saddle Club. She worked at Murl's Log Villa in West Okoboji and in the Little Country Store at the Living History Farms in Des Moines where she and Lester were residents in the Flynn Mansion from 1972 to 1982. Lester drove the wagons between the farms and was resident farrier. One of Pearl's favorite activities was entering flower arrangements at the Clay County Fair. She also enjoyed attending meals and activities at the Milford and Spencer Senior Centers. In 2002, she became a resident of St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa where she resided until her death on January 13, 2008 at the age of 97 years, 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Herbert Arms, two sisters, Florence Coover and Beatrice Coover, one grandson, Damon Welle and one granddaughter, Jessica Welle. She is survived by her brother, Erwin Barglof and his wife, Marlyn of Linn Grove, 8 sons and their wives: Bud and Marie, Jerry and Roseann, David and Bob, all of Milford, Dean of Crescent City, Florida, Bill and Bonnie of Spencer, John and Nancy of Fostoria and Mike and Marcia of Spirit Lake; three daughters: Jeannine Winter of Fostoria, Bonnie Gilbertson of Apache Junction, AZ and DeAnne Van Enter and her husband, Norman of Spencer, 33 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30A.M., Friday, January 18, 2008, at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
